On this, the tenth anniversary of the Acid Mothers Temple and its various incarnations, Kawabata Makoto an the gang take another trip into The Cosmic Inferno. These recordings feature Afrirampo drummer and vocalist Pikachu, who adds considerably to the band's sound, which in this instance shifts from strange medieval psych patterns, to quasi-eastern sitar passages whilst always finding time to return to a rollicking guitar riff given half a chance. There's one recurrent riff on here that sounds a bit like a loosened up take on the Metallica song 'Wherever I May Roam', but Hetfield, Ulrich et al would never tolerate the levels of unhinged psychedelic weirdness going on here, let alone permit a girl to sing on it. The 6th and final movement of this extravagant auditory odyssey makes for an especially entertaining epilogue, stacking '70s prog progressions and slightly wonky vocal harmonies alongside furious oscillator noise and wah-wah guitar solos. It's not easy to keep track of all the Acid Mothers Temple releases, but for what it's worth, this is a very good one.
